The Beauty of Gospel Clarity
John 6 is a wondrous example of how Jesus preached the gospel! He didn't “adjust His message” to suit the sensibilities of his audience… He knew there were believers and non-believers alike in attendance… He knew the strong note of God-centeredness in his offer of salvation would not sit well with prideful, arrogant human hearts. He knew that His words might be misunderstood and would certainly awaken anger and grumbling in many. But far from this dissuading Jesus' clarion call of the gospel, the situation just reiterated its importance! This mixed crowd needed the “unadulterated gospel” because only this would benefit everyone! This is the beauty of gospel clarity – it is the proper medicine for every condition of heart! It really is the universally applicable solution! It draws a response toward God from all concerned – confirming the standing of those who are truly God's children already, exposing those who are deceived about their relationship with Christ, drawing some into God's family, making plain to others the judgment that is to come.
