This psalm was written during dark times. If we look at our own current events they can seem really dark and depressing as well. The scriptures state that God never sleeps nor slumbers so when it seems that God is not there, He is. Even when it seems that God is not there and even when we do the things we feel the Lord commands us to, things may not work out the way we desire. Sometimes when God begins to work in our lives, things get harder. When it seems that there is no way, that is when God operates. He is the One who gives us the victory. Jesus never sinned, but still suffered to become complete. When those in Christ experience suffering in this life, it is not pleasant but it will lead to our reward. We should not seek to find suffering but when we suffer for Christ's sake we will be set free. When we realize that the sufferings of this life are just the sufferings of this life only, it is a comfort. One day every tear will be wiped away and every pain gone for those in Christ Jesus. If you are trusting in Jesus, then the sufferings are short compared to eternity with Him. Suffering is not supposed to surprise us, the amazing thing is that God chooses to save us.
