Theme: For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
I. We Do Not Lose Heart in the Afflictions of this World, Focusing on Those Things that are Eternal – vv. 16-18
A. We Do Not Lose Heart in though Our Outward Man is Perishing – v. 16
B. Our light affliction – yes, it is hard for us, but in comparison to what we deserve, it is light...and short "which is but for a moment"
C. We need to be careful to look beyond the things that we can see, to the truth of things not seen!
II. Living, Trusting God for His Promised Heavenly Habitation – vv. 1-3
A. We will all die and we, sadly, are faced with that today.
B. As we live on this earth and struggle with sin and the effects of sin on our bodies…
C. If we have not been clothed with Christ's Righteousness, we will be naked to the justice of God at the day of judgment!
D. We do not want to be unclothed… The Greek idea of the body being evil and something to be cast off is not what Paul is talking about here…
III. We Walk by Faith, Not by Sight, Having God's Spirit as a Guarantee – vv. 5-8
A. We are prepared for this by God! He has Given the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of our Eternal position!
B. God says that we are in a worse place, being here on this earth than Larry is!
C. We walk by faith...not by sight!
D. To be Absent from the Body is to be Present with the Lord! |
