The Jews confront Pilate with a accusation that to release Jesus would mean he is "no friend of Caesar." Pilate knows that they will gladly pass this complaint on to Caesar and it could cost him. So he submits to Jewish wishes and orders Jesus crucified. We face the same options before us. To align with "Caesear" and the governing authorities; or to align with Christ and suffer. The Jews inexplicably declare "we have no king but Caesar." This blasphemous statement rejects God's kingship and condemns the Jews.
