Biblical typology can be very confusing for many people. I find it amazing that Sacerdotal/Sacramental Christians interpret Scriptures literally that are intended to be typical of spiritual realities and then make the types the realities. This is certainly what they do with Bible texts like Matthew 26:26-28 and John 6:28-59. Both instances take place during the yearly observance of the Jewish Passover (Matthew 26:17 and John 6:4). The Passover typified the substitutionary death of the Promised Messiah. The Jews were to apply the blood of the lamb to the lintel and doorposts of their homes. Although they literally had to apply the blood, the blood typically portrayed the vicarious sacrifice of the Lamb and deliverance from death provided "by grace" and received "through faith." Faith was in God's promise of deliverance.
