1. Hope isn't just a desire for something to take place. Hope is an expectation that something will occur. The foundation of the people's hope (Isaiah 9:6-7) was the verified truthfulness of the prophet. 2. Peace is sometimes confused with the absence of conflict. Peace is when the soul is comforted in knowing everything is as it should be. Hope is peace. That God keeps his word and that God has promises to work out all things for the good of those who are called according to his purpose, and who love him. 3. Joy is sometimes confused with happiness. Happiness is the right emotional response to your desires being fulfilled. Happiness is situational; joy is not. You don't have to have everything running smoothly in your life to have joy. Joy is delighting in my God and Savior. He is Good all the time. 4. The word love is often reduced to simply meaning an emotion. Love is an affection commitment to what is best for the other. God was so committed to the best for His people that in order to secure what was best, His own Son had to take their place under His wrath. 5. Who is Christ? He is the anointed one. A person was anointed because they were going to fulfill some expectation. If you don't have Christ, you can't enjoy the promises of God. When Christ is the light of your life, and the truth and promises of God's word rule your thoughts, nothing can rob you of your hope, your peace, your joy, or your love.
