Countless people make “new year’s resolutions”. The most common resolution is fitness and weight loss. Others may determine to start new positive habits (i.e. daily reading through the Bible) or to get rid of bad patterns in their lives. Most new year’s resolutions only last a week or two.
The change Christians seeks is unique. We don’t merely want to improve our lives. We want to become more like Jesus (Col. 1:28). Because salvation is ultimately God’s work, change is not only possible, it is to be expected in the life of a believer. “He who began a good work in you will continue to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6).
In this sermon I show from Scripture how God-honoring change takes place. The gospel is central and foundational to change. We also are expected to put forth Spirit-enabled effort towards holiness. Ultimately, we are dependent upon God’s grace.
