The Preacher, Kohelet (probably Solomon), conducts an experiment. He tried a raft of experiences and projects to see if he could find meaning in them; there was not. Even wisdom itself did not escape his analysis. He marvelled at how the wise and the fool suffer the same fate: death. Nevertheless, those who have the righteousness of Christ are pleasing in God's sight, and they receive from him heavenly gifts of wisdom, knowledge and joy. Not so for the ungodly. At the resurrection, the little they have in this life will be taken from them, and the children of God—already possessing God's riches in Christ—will be given more.
