The children had been prisoners their whole lives; locked in a dungeon by their father. Miserable years dragged on while others lived in freedom.
The day came when they experienced that wonderful release from their dungeon. Everything was new and fresh. The world was filled with exciting experiences and the possibilities ushered in by their new freedom.
This is the picture Paul paints in Romans 5:12-21. He describes two very different families. The first, the dungeon family of death, restriction and misery. The other, the elevated family of new life, wonderful possibilities and eternal freedom.
When God saves, He performs an action of removing a prisoner from the dungeon family and elevates them to the elevated family of Christ. He takes ruined, miserable sinners from captivity and death in Adam's family and places them in freedom and new life in Christ's family.
Far from being a matter of a mere decision, true salvation is a matter of being placed by God into a new family. This is a wonderful truth!
