These words were spoken by Paul as he bid farewell to the church at Ephesus, knowing he would not see them again. It was a heartfelt plea for vigilance in the face of challenges and steadfastness in their devotion to the Lord.
In studying these verses, we uncover five key aspects of standing firm and walking in the truth of God's Word:
1) Steadfastness is rooted in the whole counsel of God - the believer should be grounded in church based ministry that touches on every key doctrine. 2) Steadfastness within the church begins with its leaders - but it also calls each of us to take heed of our own lives and ministry. 3) Godly leaders are essential for fostering and maintaining steadfastness. 4) Steadfastness is critical due to the dangers and threats we face. We still face many of the same threats as the church at Ephesus did two thousand years ago. 5) Diligence is required to remain steadfast in the faith.
We are called to be vigilant, recognising the spiritual dangers around us, and to cast ourselves wholly upon the Lord for His preservation and keeping.
