Last time in John 6:26-29 we learned that you must come to Jesus to what he offers, eternal fellowship with God and not for some physical benefit. To seek Jesus for any other reason to be saved and receive spiritual life is to forfeit a relationship with God. We also learned that religion and choosing to try to make your own spiritual bread for life won't work. What God requires and wants is for you to stop laboring for that which won't last and instead believe in the Bread He has sent from Heaven and endures forever.
This week, in John 6:30-40, we will see that all men are invited and responsible to come to Christ, but in the face of persistent ignorance and unbelief what confidence can we have that we or anyone else, can and will be saved till the end? God Himself will teach us that our confidence is not found in us, but in God's sovereign choice and that Jesus receives and keeps all that the Father has given and compels to come to Him.
