The book of Acts tells about thousands of converts. But it only tells detailed stories of a few converts. In Acts 8 and 9 three consecutive detailed conversion stories are told. Simon's "conversion" warns of the danger of making a false profession of faith (8:9–25). Saul's conversion shows how the gospel could reach even God's most hostile enemies (9:1–18). Why might the Spirit single out the conversion story of this eunuch from Ethiopia?
I think it is to convince us that God saves outsiders. God's promise of grace is for those who are near—those who seem to fit in to the church, and those who are far—those who seem to have nothing in common with the insiders (Eph. 2:17). God saved this outsider through spirit-blessed preaching.
