The people in Malachi's day were showing contempt for God by bringing the leftovers to Him in worship. The priests were showing contempt for God by accepting the blind, lame and ill sacrifices. Israel had grown weary of worship. They were worshipping God on their own terms as they found it convenient. God does not accept such worship. In the New Testament, the church of Sardis was guilty of such dead and empty worship. We are called to worship God with our whole being.
