There are some people who walk around saying that there is no such thing as right and wrong. As wicked as Herod was, he was not as insane as some of the people in our culture today. No-one, in their hearts of hearts, believes that there is no right and wrong. We are all hardwired to believe that injustice exists. Many people feel that all that really matters is what is in our hearts and that all love is the same. God invented sex and sex is designed by God to be an expression of love between and man a woman who are married to each other. We would have a much different culture if children were only born or raised by a man and a woman who are married to each other. Herod should have been worried about what God said and not feared people. It is not enough to know what is right, we must do what is right. We need to be very careful about what types of commitments we make and what we say. If something horrible has happened, what should we do? We should do what we can and tell Jesus. Jesus knows what is going on and we can talk to Him about anything. John the Baptist did the right thing even though he lost his life. It is much better to obey God and lose our lives than to obey people and be influenced by what they say. Today we see Herod as the looser and John the Baptist is the winner. We are not to be afraid to do the right thing even if it costs us greatly.
