Satan tries to hinder people from coming to Christ and from following him. A believer's determination to follow the Master may disguise his weakness - we need Jesus' warning. He kept the disciples while he was in the world; now he keeps his people by his Spirit. Satan tries to lead God's people astray (as he did Jesus) either in their beliefs or their attitude and conduct. The result of a believer's sin is to harm the conscience and dishonour Christ. The Spirit of Christ is able to maintain our faith even when we fall; he is also able to keep us from falling. He does so through his Word (when we keep it), and by giving us strength to do so. Jesus said "without me you can do nothing", and it is our wisdom to ask for his Spirit to guide and keep us.
