Text: Isaiah 9:2-7 | Speaker: Levi Bakerink | Description: It has been close to 200 years since Solomon's death and the split between the Northern Kingdom (Israel) and the Southern Kingdom (Judah). God's people suffer under wicked kings and are themselves unfaithful. Destruction and exile seem inevitable, so whatever happened to the promise that David's throne would be established forever (2 Samuel 7)? It is during this dark time that Isaiah gives his well known prophecy—"To us a child is born" (9:6). This child will sit upon David's throne and establish it forevermore (9:7). In this prophecy—fulfilled in Jesus Christ—we are reminded that God is always faithful to keep his promises and has secured the kingdom for his people, forever.
