We are commanded to be holy. Most people do not understand what being holy means. The best way to understand is to contrast it with its opposite - profane. One is pure - the other defiled. One is clean - the other unclean. A true child of God will have a desire to be holy. All people imitate the god they worship. Their character never exceeds that of their god. True Christians are being conformed to the true God - it is called sanctification. Most people do not believe it is possible to be holy, so they try to make themselves and others believe that their lack of holiness is some kind of evidence of a higher spiritual state than those who would dare to try to be holy. Nothing could be farther from the truth. "Be ye holy."
