God doesn't just give commands like some may think He does. Most times He does do the talking and it is up to us to do the listening. But there are times when God also asks us questions. Perhaps that is something that we miss out on. His questions are not pointless or to make small talk. And our response should not be what comes to mind first. Our answers to His questions matter. Here in our text we find Jesus asking Peter a simple question; “do you love me?” A lot of people will say that they do, but do they mean it? Jesus asked Peter if he loved Him, Peter in the original Greek said I like you. Also when we come to church to worship, regardless of what happened before we arrived we find God asking us what are you here looking for? What is our response? At the first the disciples had wanted to see where Jesus stayed. Is our arrival one looking to get together with Jesus and our fellow believers or just something to make things look good? We really should be seeking the love of God. The joy that sustains us. God wants us to hang around with him. He wants to know if we love Him regardless of the situation, wherever we are at the moment. But He also wants us to know Him personally. Pilate asked Jesus if He was the King of the Jews. And Jesus turned the question on him; do you know me or do you only know what someone else said? Good question do we really know Him or just what others have said and we have just accepted? When we truly know Him, He'll ask, do you want to be healed? The most important is spiritually but He can take care of other needs as well. What is the one question He is asking you? Only you can answer Him.
