Brass is an alloy, a composite of two different metals; it is not a single pure metal such as gold. It is liked for the fact that is so closely looks like gold and yet doesn't cost as much. King Saul was a man of brass, he looked like a king but really he was a poor substitute. His brass helmet illustrates this point. Brass is a kind of fraud, it's appearance says one thing but it value says something else completely. It is used for it's low friction or resistance. Satan wants us to resist him as little as possible just as king Saul did. But God has called us to remember we are of a new nature, one with the value of gold. This alloy is also used because it is flexible; it is a soft metal and has a low melting point so it flows easily. In the spiritual realm it would be unstable. With Jesus as our rock we have stability if only we will put our faith in Him. Jesus is the ally, the pure gold, that we can and should be using.
