Paul rebuked the Corinthian factions by reminding them that the various men who'd labored among them were indivisible; though possessing different gifts and playing different roles, Christ's servants are all one, united in mind and purpose, building together on the one foundation that is Jesus Christ. In contrast, it was the Corinthians who were shattering the essential unity that exists among Christ's laborers and in His Church. They were building on the foundation of Christ as independent, disparate laborers, each one seeking to erect his own superstructure according to his own desires. Though the Corinthians' "wisdom" led them to believe they were faithful servants of Christ, the truth was that they were working toward the disfigurement and ruination of His church at Corinth. They may have been deluded, but God isn't; whatever they believed about their labors, the Corinthians needed to understand the nature and extent of their culpability and the judgment they were incurring.
