The Gospel of the Kingdom - Message 21 - The Merciful - Matthew 5:7. Blessed are the merciful - "What a test of each one of us, of our whole standing and of our profession of the Christian faith!" (Martyn Lloyd-Jones). Grace is especially associated with men in their sins. Mercy is especially associated with men in their misery. To show mercy is to demonstrate grace in action - it is "A desire to relieve the suffering caused by sin." (MLJ). Of course the motivation for showing mercy is found in the mercy we have been shown by God through Christ. Opposite of showing mercy, too often we approach the wicked and the lost desiring vengeance upon them instead of praying for mercy from the Lord for them. How dreadful to know God's mercy and not show it to those enslaved to their sin, who need the living water of the gospel of Jesus Christ!
