Paul faced a problem: an immature Galatian church was turning to a so-called gospel because Jews were lying to them in saying that they had not done enough. The church is being told that they need to be circumcised and obey the Mosaic law. Besides this problem, the Gentile church here in Galatia is on the edge of being persuaded that Paul is not an apostle. Paul is being accused of making the Gospel Gentile friendly and thereby changing it. These deep faith-revealing issues plague a young church. Paul, in Galatians 1:11 - 2:10, defends his apostleship and shows the preservation of the Gospel which he received by revelation. From this text, we are shown also ho we are to respond to the Gospel.
Three Points 1. How Paul received the Gospel. (Galatians 1:11-23) 2. How Paul preserved the Gospel. (Galatians 2:1-10) 3. You and the Gospel
How you should respond to the Gospel based on a reflection on Paul's autobiography. 1. Do you realize that you have discovered the greatest treasure? God has given you His Gospel. 2. Do you realize that it took God's intervention to save you? (Galatians 1:16) 3. Do you realize that it is now your responsibility to preserve the Truth of the Gospel?
