Paul was not naturally content; he learned contentment through years of experiencing Christ’s faithfulness in the unique circumstances God chose for him... even imprisonment in Rome. “... I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content.” Philippians 4:11 (NKJV) When we’re content, we don’t allow circumstances to master or control us, determining whether we’re joyful or miserable. Contentment is a distinctly Christian virtue, because it flows from our relationship with Jesus, not our earthly circumstances.
