The curiosity of the disciples of Christ concerning the details of Christ's second coming was met by Christ's solemn warning that they not allow themselves to be deceived by false Christs, false signs, false teachers, or a false hope. This chapter's major thrust has been missed often. It is a warning to be prepared for the coming of judgment. Those who are deceived by all that which is false will not be ready for the end of the world. Those who spend their time looking for the signs of the times will be among those who will be deceived. Christ's emphasis is that His followers should pursue greater knowledge of Him so that they can be on guard against the grave dangers that can ensnare those who are unaware of the spiritual warfare in which the people of Christ are engaged.
