Genesis 10 and 11 tell the amazing story of how God brought a vast forest of language trees into existence at the Tower of Babel. This was a stupendous miracle of judgement from God. Christ said that He, too, had come to bring division on earth; yet on the Day of Pentecost, the Apostle Peter announced that God also now intends to reverse some of the effects of the Babel curse by means of the gospel of Christ's death and resurrection. "He wants the separation ended," says Dr. Whitcomb. "He wants us to penetrate and tell people of the love of Jesus, that there could be a unity in the faith, and ultimately of language, forever. That's an amazing thing. We're in a huge program." Yet God will not reach the 6,000 people groups in the world today through us by means of the miracle of tongues, but will rather incorporate our study and diligent effort into the outworking of His program. God wants us to have a part in His plan -- what an enormous privilege!
