There is no mention of Lazarus' works contributing to his landing in Paradise. Yet, we do know that he did not end up in the same place as the rich man. What likely separated the two of them following their deaths? Likely, Lazarus pleased God, and the rich man did not. How? The Bible repeatedly and emphatically pointed to faith as the only way to please God. So, it would be wise to conclude that Lazarus too was a man of faith although not mentioned by name in Hebrews chapter 11! Faith in God and His word is the only means whereby a proper relationship with the Lord can exist. Likewise, relationships are built upon communication, whether between men or between man and God. When one ceases to care about what the other has to say, the relationship ends. Fellowship is severed when there is no more consideration of the viewpoint of the other. God says as much concerning His people. Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. Restoration with the Creator takes place when men depart from sin by placing their faith in God's word. Works are the result of faith demonstrated and the response to God's salvation. It is essential to understand that works are NEVER the root of salvation but always the fruit of being saved. Fortunately, knowing and trusting in God has never been limited to those in Old Testament times. This knowing and trusting match the Christian's trust in the Lord after he or she hears the truth of the gospel of the grace of God.
