As we come to the close of one year and the opening of another, we need to be sure of the basis of God's favour towards us and the security in which we trust. Paul's experience (as reflected in Phil. 3) is one with that of Abraham, our forefather in the faith. Both he and Abraham (and we too) find that our own bases of security are not simply inadequate, but actually sinful. In his mercy God rescues us from these and secures us in his own Son.
