When Jesus was born, Herod was king of Judea. When the Magi came to Herod with the question – where is the one born King of the Jews – it renewed a conflict begun centuries before between Jacob and Esau. Jesus was a descendent of Jacob, while Herod was a descendent of Esau. Herod was a very evil king and had the authority from Rome. In contrast, Jesus is a baby born in lowly conditions. So who was the true king? We see that good triumphs over evil as Jesus life is spared. Today it might be apparent to many people that evil is in control. But, God is still in control.
