Lot is so assimilated into Sodomite society that we are challenged to identify evidence of his righteousness (2 Pt 2:6-9). His attempts to do good are crippled by his compromised character & feeble faith. While the strangers visit his home, the Sodomites gather outside his door, demanding sexual intimacy with Lot's guests. Lot commendably confronts them & urges them to refrain from this wickedness, but astonishingly tries to assuage them by offering them his 2 virgin daughters! He is in a dismal spiritual state & overcome with moral confusion. Although he calls the Sodomites his "brothers", they actually hate him & murderously attack him. Lot is yanked into the house by the angels & the men judged with temporary blindness. We learn that a pattern of compromise will result in a crisis of confusion. Such compromise is not respected, even by Sodomites. And even judgment does not bring Sodomites to repentance.
