The church that makes a commitment to honor God by exalting Him, holding His glory as paramount in life above all; embracing a high view of Scripture; and taking their faith seriously, is not a SAFE church--but it is a GOOD church.
This expression, of course, alludes to a line taken from C. S. Lewis's book 'The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.' Lucy asks Mr. Beaver if the lion she is about to meet--Aslan, a type of Christ--is safe or not. 'Who said anything about safe?' came his reply, 'Of Course he isn't safe. But he's good. He's the King, I tell you.'
When a people of God invite God into their church by embracing the things previously stated, He typically honors that request. But many people in such a church are unprepared for the 'High Cost of Godliness.'
Where God is present, Satan is not far off. As Scottish preacher Robert Murray M'Cheyne said, 'I know well that when Christ is nearest, Satan also is busiest.' So true.
Our God is a refining fire. And He searches to find a people of God who love Him enough to take Him seriously when He says, 'Be ye holy, for I am holy.' If this is truly what you want--and I happen to think that it is the greatest puruit of any person--then brace yourself. He will purify those He loves.
