The prophets of the Old Testament may not have had all the details of the coming of the Messiah, especially the exact date, but sometimes I think they knew better than most people today what it was that Jesus was coming into the world to do. They knew that He wasn't coming into the world merely to be placed into a manger, or receive gifts from wise men, or to provide us with an excuse to create a holiday or go shopping or give and receive presents.
No, although they didn't have all the details, they knew that He was coming into the world to be their Redeemer. The long awaited savior of all who past, present, and future who believe in Him, and that includes all those saints like Abraham who died before His advent but rejoiced to know that His day would surely come (John 8:56), those who 'died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off were assured of them, embraced them.'
This glorious redemption however, was achieved by suffering. Jesus came to suffer and enter into glory.
But the main point of this sermon is this; we know how important this GOSPEL message was to the prophets who longed to see Messiah's day, but how important is it to you? Have you grown tired of a message that still astounds angels? Or do you think that it is immaterial whether you believe it?
Well then, I beg you to listen and ask yourself, if you are really so sure you don't need to believe the message that prophets and even angels anxiously searched into.
