As beautiful as so many of those songs are, the syrupy sentiment of many Christmas carols often believe or give a false impression concerning the circumstances of Christ’s birth and the reasons for His coming! Indeed, as we turn to the words of our text as recorded for us in Micah 5:1-5a we find ourselves being sobered by the fact that it was at the very moment of Israel’s greatest shame, degradation and humiliation that the Prophet Micah proclaimed the coming of the Christ child! Consequently, it is also and especially at those times of our own greatest need – personally, emotionally mentally, materially, physically, spiritually – that by God’s grace we must focus our faith on The Baby Born in Bethlehem!
