One way or another, God shows us our limits so we may find our love in him. Love is a 'God-thing'. This has been plainly shown in Christ's coming. He saw and sees what we need—not just getting what we want, but fellowship with himself and one another. He gave and gives himself for us to meet that need. It is in the discovery and joy of this that we know love, and are enabled to love.
