This sermon explores the significance of the first blessing Jacob gives to his 12 sons. Reuben, Simeon, and Levi receive curses from their father, but Judah receives a great blessing in Genesis 49:8-12. He is a lion, and he is promised authority over his brothers, and ultimately over the nations. We explore the significance of the Hebrew word Shiloh, šiylōh (שִׁיֹלה) in verse 10. Shiloh is also the name of the location of the Tabernacle once Israel entered Canaan, šiylōh (שִׁיֹלה). This reminds us of John 1:14, where the Word (logos, λόγος) is said to have tabernacled (skēnóō, σκηνόω) among us.
