After making the argument that Christ was appointed by God to be High Priest because "Today I have begotten You," the writer of Hebrews now argues it from God saying from Psalm 110 that Christ is a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Being a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek is much different than being a high priest according to the order of Aaron. This can easily be seen by reading Psalm 110 where after that statement, it continues saying that He will execute kings in His wrath. He will fill the places with dead bodies. He will execute the heads of many countries. The Levitical high priest sacrificed bulls and goats. Christ will sacrifice kings. Ultimately, this is fulfilled on His return when He will cast all those who reject Him into hell. This week's passage talks about how He had to suffer, how He had to cry out to God and how He was saved because of His godly fear. But through that suffering, He became the author of salvation to all who would obey Him. With the modern church wanting to put such a focus on those who believe in Him (which is what is required to obey Him), they don't want to tie salvation to obedience as the writer of Hebrews clearly does. Eternal salvation is for those who God changes their heart so that they will obey Him. Jesus Christ as High Priest will slay everyone. Some now, whoever loses their life will gain it, and some when He returns.
