Having revealed Himself as the Good Shepherd, Jesus continues to reveal the nonnegotiable truth that He is the way to eternal life. The analogy of the Shepherd and the sheep is both warm and extremely familiar to his audience.
He now moves from the analogy of the communal village sheep fold with an entrance that was an actual door, to the open air countryside sheepfold, where the shepherd himself was the "door." As such the shepherd, the actual individual, was the only way in.
Hence, we read these powerful words before us.
John 10:7 Then Jesus said to them again, "Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.
One is immediately reminded of the Apostle Paul framing the doctrine of salvation in Timothy's mind.
1 Tim 2:5 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus...
