Genesis chapter 20 brings us to a scene that is familiar. Once again we find that this hero of the faith is only human. In the weakness of his faith, in his desire to save himself, Abraham once again places Sarah in moral danger, and the line of the Messiah in mortal danger. Ironically, the pagan Abimelech demonstrates a better understanding of the law and a healthier application of integrity then does Abraham. In spite of Abraham's failures, we find, once again, that God preserves his offspring. What do we learn from a story like this? That Satan cannot snuff out the seed of the woman – even with Abraham's help. The Messiah is come, who will save his people from their sins.
