Adam and Eve have now rebelled against God, they've eaten from the forbidden tree, they've fallen, and they're covered in fig leaves hiding in the bushes. Man's effort at his own salvation is to get a bunch of fig leaves, sew them together and try to cover up their sins. That action is futile. (REVIEW of verses 9-12) 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? God knew where they were hiding. But He wanted them to come out on their own. God knows something happened. Adam and Eve are different this morning. 10 And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself. Adam admits he and Eve sinned. 11 And he said, Who told thee that thou were naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou should not eat? God asked “Did you eat of this tree after I told you not to? Who told you to eat of the forbidden tree?” 12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. As happens today, the blame is shifted off the self. I never own up to my own responsibility. Adam never owns up to his own responsibility. He blames God and Eve. 13 And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. Eve blames the serpent. This serpent at this point in time probably was an upright animal that walked on all fours and was very beautiful. It could communicate with man. It was not a snake at this point in time. 14 And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; ... |
