Gehazi was Elisha's servant. Earlier in this chapter Elisha had asked Gehazi's opinion on how to reward the Shunammite woman for her generosity and he had pointed out that she didn't have any kids so Elisha prophesied that she would have a son within a year. Now a few years had passed and that same woman had come to them because her son was dead. Elisha had sent Gehazi on ahead to lay his staff on the boy. It is possible that Gehazi expected this to be his breakout moment, proof he was the next prophet, but it was not meant to be and Elisha had had to go in and resurrect the boy. Here in our text Gehazi has been task with cooking the meal for this meeting. Something went wrong in the preparation of the meal and Elisha once again had to make things right. It is a little understandable that Gehazi's faith was a little worn thin by the time that fellow showed up with the bread. It obviously wasn't enough for everybody, at least as far as man is concerned. Gehazi's faith is worn thin, he is possibly disillusioned, and most likely depressed. His spiritual stomach had soured.
