In the sermon today I will preach the second of three sermons that will take us through the Christmas holiday. I am developing the theme of the person of Christ, highlighting in this second sermon the Lord's descriptive title of Himself as the Son of God. Following a few general comments on the birth of Christ I will expound upon the major controversy surrounding this text. In the first place I will address the conception of Christ in the womb of the virgin Mary. This has always been the point of contention by the unbelieving skeptics, but it has also become an issue in the modern church. I hope to demonstrate that the Bible is unmistakably unambiguous in its assertion of this truth. I will do so by developing the meaning of the Hebrew from which Matthew quotes; I will prove that Matthew is absolutely clear about it; and then I will demonstrate how Luke settles the matter. In the second place I will show the conclusion asserted by the biblical writerd, that this Christ is “God with us!” This is the truth of God, revealed in the Scriptures, and believed by ALL true Christians, regardless of the protestations by secularists and atheists. It has been my prayer that God will be pleased to bless His word.
