Dreadful Sin and Gorgeous Savior. Genesis 34:1-31Genesis 34 is a picture of people who live with little or no restraint. Passion rather than prudence, desire rather than decency are the driving factors in this story. The reality is, however, when men do not acknowledge that there is a God to judge them, they are left only to judge themselves. And in that sort of world, moral restraint is eventually abandoned completely, and every man will do what is right in his own eyes. When the true God is absent from the lives of men, they may not be totally irreligious. In fact, they may do some religious things. But their religion will not redeem them. In the end it will only ruin them.Genesis 34 is a Dreadful sin chapter, but it is not a graceless chapter. God will ultimately redeem His people from their sins and become a Gorgeous savor. In order to get back to Gorgeous Savor, you have to overcome the past. And here's how that works. Before you can put the past behind you, you have to be willing to put it in front of you ... and deal with it. Confronting face-to-face your moment of surrender, in which you yield yourself fully to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, you receive the blessing he is ready to give you, and learn to walk with him ... even if you have to limp.
