A great victory had just been won by the nation of Israel and now there was a ceremony or inauguration of their new king, Saul.
Samuel takes advantage and addresses the nation, and in his address we see:
1. The Honour That He Asserted
i) How Indisputable It Was - he had a great testimony with the people and they acknowledged it - that`s what we need as Christians !
ii) How Durable It Was v 2 - from childhood - and there was character, reality, authenticity to it.
2. The History That He Outlined
i) It Was A Chequered One - highs and lows - so with the Church, and with our individual lives - are we going through a 'cool' stage of our Christian life ? or are we full of zeal for the Lord ?
ii) It Was A Challenging One - having brought them right up to their present day, Samuel issues a challenge - obey the Lord - blessing - disobey - face the consequences
3. The Happening He Occasioned
i) The Purpose Of It - thunder and rain in the wheat harvest to show their wickedness in asking for a king
ii) The Performing Of It - God was the source - Samuel was the instrument - what power there is in prayer ! Why don`t we avail ourselves of it more often ??
iii) The Effect Of It - they feared the Lord and Samuel
4. The Hope He Imparted
They have done wrong but there is hope if they follow the Lord
i) Faithfulness Of God - if they turn to Him
ii) Promise of the Prophet - to pray for them, teach them, he also cautions them
