As we continue to see how God has fulfilled His prophesy given to Daniel through history, it is important for us to remember that all of these things are happening because God is preparing the world for the coming of the Messiah. All of the violence of men, their anger and pettiness, their flatteries and intrigues, all of it is to further God's will and to accomplish His objectives. In this passage we continue to see the vanity of men in contrast to the purposefulness of God. Men attempt various things and even have accomplishments, but they just fade away in the next generation. Men's actions end in vanity except for the reality that there is a God who causes all things to work together for good for the blessing to His people and to the glory of His name.
