Even though the Jewish leaders were the ones trying Jesus, Jesus was not actually on trial, the people were. When people reject God, it is not God who is on trial, it is those who reject Him. Holding a trial in the middle of the night was against Jewish law, even still this was what the religious leaders did. When we think that we are in control, we must remember that God is sovereignly working out His plan. We are not puppets but we must realize that we cannot control God and the way He does things. All of us will face God. Before we are ready to hear the good news, we must realize the bad news, that all have sinned and fallen short of God's glory. Have you ever felt that things are out of control and wanted to ask God to do something. Even when we do not feel like it, God is in control. Even the Devil cannot act apart from God's control. God uses people to do His will, He even uses wicked people to speak His truth. Jesus came to set people free. Jesus had to endure great suffering so that we could be set free. Peter lied when people asked him about Jesus. Even though he lied, Peter is not in Hell with others who have lied because Peter received a new life and so all who have been forgiven by the Son will receive new life. Jesus came to save sinners. Today, we stand trial on what we have been taught. However, just knowing it will not save us, we must do God's will. It is not enough to know the truth or to know that the truth is true, we must live the truth. Will we follow Jesus or deny Him? Jesus Christ is Lord and one day every knee will bow and tongue will confess this truth.
