God had been telling them the things that they needed to do individually to be a holy people. Now He started telling them how they collectively needed to constrain sin if they want to be a holy people. He started by telling them that they needed to put to death anyone in their land, whether stranger or Israelites, that gave his offspring to Molech. Giving them to Molech is broader than sacrificing them to Molech. It would include leading them to serve Molech as well. To be a holy people, those who train their children to worship a false god must be removed and not just those that do it. The ones who know about it and do nothing about it, God will judge them as well. In the church too often we don't consider the training of the children by parents as the central way that we are to preserve society holiness in the next generation.
