In Malachi 2:10-16, the prophet addresses the profaning of the covenant by the men of Judah. They were divorcing their Jewish wives and marrying foreign wives. The problem was not racism (marrying foreign women) but the treachery of divorce and the fact that these foreign wives were idolaters. As a result, the children of these unholy unions were being raised as pagans (cf. Nehemiah 13). Thus, God refused to accept their offerings and calls the transgressors to repentance. There are many lessons for the church today, including the importance of marrying "in the Lord" and honoring God by following His prescription for sanctified households (cf. Eph 5:22-6:4).
