So Jon has returned to Alaska, for perhaps the last time, because he wanted to tell the Scammon Bay leadership first, face to face, and then the assembly of saints, before they return to the lower 48 states for further medical attention. The "Announcement" presents Jon's news to the congregation concerning the suspected condition.
Although there were many tears in the congregation because of the announcement, Jon wanted to deliver this message so the church could be strengthened with joy through their suffering.
