This chapter offers both reassurances and tests to help confirm the true believer in their faith. The reader is lovingly addressed as "little children." Do we reflect this by showing dependence on God, a loving spirit, and a childlike confidence in His care?
Tonight, our focus is on forgiveness—the marvellous work by which God removes not only the guilt of our specific sins but also the power sin holds over our corrupted nature at its very root.
In Leviticus, God provides a vivid picture of forgiveness. The High Priest foreshadows Christ, and the two goats symbolise the one work of Christ with two distinct aspects. One goat is sacrificed, representing forgiveness and cleansing through the shedding of blood, while the other is banished, illustrating the complete removal of guilt and sin.
Have we come to the Lord, pleading the name of Christ, and experienced the freedom and peace that comes from His forgiveness?
