The biggest problem that Moses saw in leading the children of Israel out of Egypt was the children of Israel – not Pharaoh. It would seem that with all the misery that Egypt was to them they would have been eager to leave, but they were not. What a picture of how sinners are held in the chains of their sins; miserable and hopeless, yet unwilling to leave it! Unbelief can look like true faith as long as it is not under trial and affliction. These people professed to believe, but God testified against them saying, "They believed not in God and trusted not in his salvation." The trial of Moses' life was trying to convince people who said they believed God to truly trust in Him.
