God's warning about the flood and His instructions to Noah to prepare an ark to save his family and the animals indicate that the Lord meant what He said about the judgment of the flood, and that His gracious provision for Noah and his family was just as sincere. It is sometimes difficult for us to comprehend the holiness of God and His righteous obligation to punish sin, but His mercy to sinners is also incomprehensible. We are living in an age of grace, when "whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Romans 10:13). God told Noah when the end of the time of grace was coming: seven more days. We do not know when it will occur in our age, but we know that the door of opportunity to come to Christ will close, just as the Lord closed the door to the ark just before His judgment fell. Like the apostle Paul, "We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man with all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ" (Colossians 1:28).
